While riding ad hitting a few jumps on Saturday I noticed that my right front shock has oil on it. I have a 2002 400ex with stock shocks.

My question is, I am not a competition rider, I ride trails and occasionally I get to croom in Florida and DurhamTown in GA where they have some nice tracks. I dont jump 50 feet or anything. At most I might get 4 ft off of the ground. I need to buy some new shocks for my 400ex. I am a 200 lb rider. I see a lot of shocks for over $1000. I dont eed to spend that kind of money do I. How much should I spend and what type of shocks are good for my kind of riding.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks:huh

Works triple rate a-t stealers without the rezzies they are only 375 and will do everything the elka will do except they will be valved right when you recieve them. when i had them they didnt fail and i was jumping bigger stuff than your probably going to do. for you it seems like the XC valving would be you better choice. you can still jump with this valving just not as big as mx which you dont plan on doing.

Buy yourself another set of stock shocks on ebay or from someone who has them and make sure they are not leaking.

If oil is leaking does that mean the shocks are shot? Mine leak so does that mean they need to be replaced soon?

400ex stock shocks are not rebuildable, if they leak they are gone.
Elka would be by far better than Works for the money, In my opinion.

go on ebay and get a set of take-offs from a 450R or a KFX400.

generally about $200 to $250 and fully adjustable.

get them rebuilt to something more specific to you, if you feel like spending more money..
in the end, youve spent around half what you wouldve paid for an equal set of elkas or works.
