View Full Version : Shifting at WOT?

Occasionally when I shift at WOT (using the clutch of course) from 2-3, 3-4, or 4-5 it seems as if the shifter locks out and I can't pull up on the shift lever. If I let off the throttle for a split second, and then shift, it shifts right into gear. Is it normal to lock me out of the next gear when shifting at WOT and am I being overly hard on the tranny?

You have to let of the gas to shift unless you are power shifting in a drag race or something but you have to let off of your gas when you use your clutch. :huh

i shift mine WOT all the time and it goes in fine and i use the clutch. i only do this when i am racing though. i have a good friend with a raptor 700 and he has to let off the gas also. he said yamaha made it that way so its harder to tear up tranmissions. maybe yours is the same way. mine is an 01

That is correct. I only do this occasionly though. Sounds like I better stop if I want the tranny to stay together...Thanks guys.

I got an 06' and it does the same. Just dump the throttle for a split second and you'll be fine. I back off to about 3/4 throttle if I'm draggin.

That makes me feel a little better. I bought the bike used, so I was a little worried it had tranny damage.

Don't worry till you hear the sound of gears letting loose! just kidding. Just keep good maintenance on it and don't constantly jam gears and your tranny will last a long frickin time.
