I bought one used lower 2000 model 400ex stock a-arm to use on a 2001 400ex I have. Are the lower ball joint stud diameter (the tapered part) the same on the 2000 and 2001 model?

I installed it and the balljoint goes to far up into the spindel. When I put the nut on to tighten it, I run out of thread way before its tight. So then I put washers in there to take up the space, and now the rubber boot is binding with the spindel because its to far up and rubbing. Its makes it alot harder to turn now.

Does anyone have an idea if the diff years have diff diameters?? Thanks!

well I took everything apart, it turns out the spindle whole was wallered out. The balljoint stud goes into the spindle 1/4 inch to far before its tights.

Sorry to hear that but that's what it sounded like. You ever have a balljoint come loose in the past? Just wondering what could have caused the hole to get so worn...

I bought the quad used from the dealer with Houser LT suspension so it was like that when I bought it. It just didnt affect the steering with the houser a-arms because nothing rubbed until I installed stock a-arms.

Its amazing how many little things you can find wrong with a quad when you bring it home and get it on the jack.
I ordered a new spindle from service honda for $65 shipped. I dont really have time to find a used one and dont feel like getting screwed again.
