Hmmm id buy a nice smaller size truck, such as a tacoma, frontier, ranger, and s-10(in that order). They are much more affordable...

big truck seem nice, but gas prices arent goin down anytime soon, IF i were you i'd look at the new style toyota tacomas, they are really nice, i'm selling my 02 dodge ram to try and buy one bc I send around 100 dollars aweek on gas only driving back and forth from home and school or work. and the insurance is alot higher on the big 4x4 trucks

id say you have a Mercedes Benz taste with a Toyota size wallet! a 2500-3500 is way to much for a first vehicle! i know it sounds great but its expensive!

last april i turned 16 and my parents bought me a 93 s10. perfect first vehicle! tank of gas lasts 2 weeks, i can haul my yfz with it and insurance is only 80 bucks a month with a good student discount. a 2500 would ream you with so many bills you wouldnt imagine! being 17 and a new driver in this world, i would say you need a small truck man!

power stroke for sure you will get much better mileage with a diesel than you will a gas in that size truck.

Toyota's are pretty expensive vehicles too. They are the most expensive 1/2T/midsize trucks on the market right now.

But that's beside the point...

When I was 17, I had a '90 F-150. It was a good first vehicle. I think you'll be happy with any of the following:

S-10, Ranger, Frontier, Taco, or a decent late 80's-90's F150 or Chevy. You might even be able to find one of the first generation Dakota's for cheap too.

For a truck its ok fast. I think it will be alot faster with a chip, air intake, and new pipes. Maybe 100+more hp.

if you want somthing with good power and fuel economy then don't even think about getting anything else other than a duramax. they are pricey but well worth it, my dad's 2004 duramax has 160,000miles and nothing other than things like back tires oil changes and breaks, we have a diablosport predator set on 65hp economy tune and on our last 2500mile trip we averaged 27mpg while crusing at 75mph most of the way.

once you drive one you will love it, i know i do.

27mpg right.......

could everyone quit with the FORD vs Chevy BS. its annoying.

I would look into a smaller truck. Im currently looking into a 87 F150 4x4 4 speed 300ci 6 cylinder

Not the first time ive heard that. As for trucks i have a 2000 s-10 and its a great first truck. Only two things i dont like are the push button 4X4 and i would rather have a 5-speed, the day running lights are a pain to. Its only got 92000 and the only problem ive had was a wheel bearing went bad.

actually, my family owns a construction company, so we own a lot of trucks, and have never had problems with any of them, including our F series trucks. We own dodges, mitsubishi fusos, fords, and chevy trucks. we take care of all of them, so reliabilty hasnt been an issue, but our power strokes have never let us down wether towing or snow plowing.

I like both the F350 and the Chevy/GMC 2500/3500. The Ford F350 has a solid front axle, which is heavy duty. The F250 has a split I beam front end. Notorios for eating tires. The Chevy/GMC has a torsion bar type front end. Nice ride, but not heavy duty. 94 to 97 F250/F350 had the 7.3 Poerstroke diesel. Awesome motor. Chevy/GMC diesel motors during those years were junk. I'm not a big fan of Ford gasoline motors, but you can't go wrong with the Chevrolet/GMC gas engines. Both trucks would be a home run if you could find one with low miles, and in good shape. Good luck, and get what YOU like.

There is no better diesel between the years of 94 through 97 than the 7.3 Powerstroke Ford. I have owned a total of 9. All 7.3 Powerstrokes. Are they perfect? No. Are they better than Chevy, GMC, and Dodge? Yes. Now 98 and up is a whole new ballgame...

thanks CHAR250R.. yea i liek the chevys and all but personally im a FORD man. dont get me wrong chevys are great trucks.. but the F250 and 350 powerstrokes hit home for me!

i was going to save my doe for a silverado or ram 1500 v8 ext. cab but with the gas price trends showing no good changes in sight, im thinking a nice single cab/club cab v6/small v8 5spd silverado or dakota would be alittle bit smarter....

:huh why the **** would you need something so big and powerful? do you plan on hauling a ****load of books to school everyday or something?

and seriously enough of this ford is better than dodge, and gmc and toyota. its bull****. my family has owned all cars known to man from any brand and if you maintain it right and do the anual check it up, the car should run perfect. enough of the bull**** and keep the thread to what its supposed to be
