How much will changing my front sprockets help or hurt(MPH) down 1/up 1

down one will lose you about 5 -7 mph up one will gain about the same. I never really tried with my GPS.

then why are the new 400's faster than the old ones?
the old ones are 15 front and the new are 14

Pretty sure they changed external gearing to a 14, and compensated with the internal gearing. Not sure though.

does having a 14tooth front sproket make the 400ex accelerate alot harder?

mines an 03, but it was new about a month befor the 04's came out so basically it is an 04. would a 14 tooth sprocket be better

I have a 2002 with a 14t on it and I prefer that to the 15t it had stock. Pulls harder.
