Are cams worth the money?

I have a Z basically stock motor wise except for a pipe,jets,and air filter. I ride with mostly 450s and raptors. I was wondering will having intake and exhaust hotcams help me keep up or are they not worth the money?

the intake and exhaust cam combo is sick. might wanna invest in a higher rev CDI tho..:D

really, the guy at my shop has an 03 and 04 z and he says the one he put hte cams pipe etc. is now slower than the stock one... idk
