Could be your clutch cable is out of adjustment and not letting the clutch fully dissengage between shifts. Hopefully that's all it is.

there is an ajustment on the lever and on the engine on the right side

^ yep

There should be about 1 inch of free movement measured at the end of the lever before the cable actually starts to engage. That's what the spec is--assuming your using stock levers. If you've got more than that, then tighten the cable adjuster(s) as needed. Basically, you want some slack in the cable but not a whole bunch.

so there should be an inch of free movement meaning from clutch lever all the way out i should be able to pull it 1in in before the clutch cable starts to pull

My fault. I was looking at the wrong spec. It seemed strangly large as I was typing it but....

Anyway, I looked it up correctly and the spec is 3/8" to 3/4".

Thanks for the correction!

Here's what I looked at first. Doh! This is for the parking brake.

the way i was always told to check is is you should be able to stick the edge of a nickel or a dime between the lever and the perch at the point when the clutch starts to disengage. but it is probably about the same due to the exageration of movement at teh end of the lever. either way, their should be some play in it.

worst case however is your clutch basked could be getting grooved and causing the plates to stick or a shift fork in the tranny could be getting worn. but always start simple before moving on to the more in depth/expensive stuff.

If your oil is old, that does it too, well it's not as smooth.
