The message board isn't as active on the weekends;) :)

The OMF scoops seem kinda pricy to me but Tinner, a member here, makes some reasonably priced sccops.

How useful scoops are (any brand) could be debatable but they are good sticker holders:p

You probably won't notice the difference. Some say it cools it down some say it doesn't. They are mainly for looks

are they easy to bolt on? and will they work with normal front fenders and race cut ones without have to modify the scoops so they fit?

while we are on this subject I wanted to ask how hot is hot for these bikes? Has anyone temped the jug with a temp gun to see what kind of temps are normal? Would be nice if I had a reference point...also anyone else run that LCD dipstick thermometer? Seems like a good idea to keep tabs on oil temps....and is their a bigger oil cooler for these bikes? Thanks

xr only has a relly nice one to and i think it looks better and it's cheaper

i mounted a cbr 1100 oil cooler on my ex i could't tell you how well it works b/c i'm in mid build but all i had to do to mount it is zip tie it to the frame and make the oil line to the oil tank longer and bend the line from the engine to the oil cooler a little bit it's about twice the size too!

I run a XR's Only Temperature Dip Stick. It's a great way to track the engine temperature to prevent a possible over heat. The temperature does vary depending on outside temp and riding style. The typical range I see is 200 to 250. On cool days I've seen it as low as 175 and on hot days it's been as high as 275. Anything over 300 degrees is bad. Oil starts to breakdown when it gets that high.
I'm also a firm believer in air scoops. With my riding style and high riding temperatures I've seen a 25 degree drop in oil temps after the air scoops.
Below is a actual picture of my XR's Only Oil Temperature Dip Stick. I bought it a while ago. I paid $39.95 for it directly from their website http://www.xrsonly.com

anyone else heard of a aftermarket oil cooler? Seems like a good way to run alittle cooler? also does the XR Only dipstick temp gauge have the stock oil levels marked on it? I do like that one better than the LCD one...don't have to worry about batteries!!! Thanks guys

It does have a oil level mark painted on the stem. The stem is fairly narrow and when the oil is new, it can be hard to read. I keep the stock dip stick in the quad's tool container to check the oil level.

1.) Install a larger oil cooler
2.) Install an additional stock oil cooler
3.) Install a high compacity oil tank
4.) Install air scoops
5.) Ride in cooler weather
6.) Ensure your quad is jetted correctly (a lean condition will create excessive engine heat)
7.) Sell your 400EX and buy a water cooled quad
