View Full Version : Pappy how is Cody?

For those that don't know, Cody crashed hard in his youth race today at the Big Buck GNCC.

I didn't see it actually happen, but I was the first person there. He cracked his helmet, and busted his goggles, and chest protector. Cody did walk away, but it seems as though he took a really hard hit to the head and couldn't remember his B-day, so Pappy took him to the hospital to get him checked out. His nerf bar was bent backwards into the rear tire.

Anyway, I hope Cody is doing ok, and thank goodness he didn't break anything or wasn't unconcious (sp?) when I got there.

Pappy and Cody just left my house and Cody is pretty beat up. He broke his right elbow and is cut and brused up real good, and has a pretty good concussion. From the looks of his gear his quad ran him over, head first:eek: Quadmonkey thanks for helping Cody.

I was going to say it looks like he got thrown over the bars and then ran over. My chest protector looked similar to that.

Glad to hear Cody will be okay in the end...broken elbow doesn't sound like fun...I am not sure I even know what that means. I will have to wait for my home nurse to wake up...it is after 8:30pm so she is a goner for the night. lol

he wrecked in a field section, WFO. pretty sure he caught a kicker and it sent him over the bars. from the looks of the quad it made it to the corner and wrapped itself around a pole

MY kid wrecked his BMX bike ramping it WITHOUT his helmet on yesterday...:grr:
He looks like someone beat the tar out of him as his head bounced off the concrete.:scary: and gave us all quite a scare.
I think he has learned his lesson on how important a helmet is now .

no hard cast, just some new fangled thing that goes on and off. he has to go see our regular doc next week for more xrays but the doc in SC was pretty confident he will require nothing more then some rest and healing time. it is not broke, just a fracture and a bummed out funny bone..lol

btw...in and out of the ER in an hour:eek2: around here that visit would have taken 6 hours atleast and then an immediate trip to a specialist:rolleyes:

Hey Cody,

Glad to hear your home and recovering. Looks like your were moving pretty good when you went down. Everybody at the park was pretty worried about ya after we got the call from Kevin yesterday.

Hope you have a speedy recovery !

......at least now you can tell your sponsor how the quad handles a high speed crash, now that there is some real testing for them.

Hope to see ya soon.

when i first saw that pic i was like holy s^$t, i though his body did that i was scared...glad hes able to smile after that wreck, i saw two pretty nasty wrecks yestarday at mototown...once again, glad hes ok

Pappy
04-15-2007, 09:23 AM
i dont know about the smiling part:p he did just walk over and checked out his mangled gear and said..."damn"

it really upset him that he couldnt remember anything, he thought he had brain damage:p he couldnt tell me his name or birthday and was in left field so i figured it was best to have him checked out. he really wasnt complaing about his arm until after they checked him out at the ER.

i cant say enough about using all the riding gear you can. the chest protector alone saved him and we will be looking at some additional gear that should offer some more lower back and side protection. im not real happy with the way the roll off's crushed back into his face(Chad Duvall told cody about Barry Hawk and roll offs and how he had to have a plate put in his face due to this same type of thing)

in any event, he will be back to throwing roost in no time. he cant wait to get his race 90 done so he can have better suspension as he feels that probably would have prevented this.

Hey Pappy,

Think about getting a neck brace for cody. Wade wrecked pretty bad 2 weeks ago Missed shifted going over a double & came up a little short, over the handle bars he went. Now wade is 18 170lbs half decent shape & his yfz450 rolled over him. His body all twisted. he actually said he felt his head spring back to his butt & jerk foward. He swears if not for the neck brace he does not know what would have happened. He actually went numb for a couple of minutes. Neck brace & mouth piece to save your teeth, especiallly when mom invests over $5000 in your mouth. Hope all is well

Helments cracking are no fun....ive had that happen to me too. I woke up in a hospital room...had no ideo what happened. All I remember was coming up short on a jump....they said i went over the bars and got hit by a guy on a 450r. When they showed me my (brand new) TLD helment...i couldnt believe it, it was split straight down the middle, my chest protector (shift) was broken in several places....i had cracked ribs.

Tell Cody that pain is temporary, and that he'll get back healed up stronger than before! I hope he is alright and regains his memory, though not of the crash....I would hate remebering that.:(

"It happens, and I am not petrified. I know that every time I ride I have a risk of crashing. Thanks for all your support everyone, it means alot. I am hoping that i feel well enough to perform at 110% at Lorettas but I will do my best regardless.

I am feeling better and ready to ride, but I hate when I am hurt and cant do anything. My headache only hurts now when I cough or sneeze, and my elbow is the most painfull. I feel like I was run over by a quad:) I will let you know that I am not fearless of wrecking, but it is part of what I do and I respect that

Thanks again everyone, Cody walked by earlier this evening and I pulled this thread up for him and he read each reply and smiled.

Cody and I sat down this evening and ordered him a new helmet and a sixonesix suit for some added protection to some areas we are seeing that were not protected from just a chest protector.

Ive seen him battered and bruised before, I watched him ride for the fallout movie with a broken wrist and then follow dan around for 5 hours while he filmed all the while in pain. This wreck has him in alot of pain but we all know it could have been much worse, even tragic. We are thankful for another chance to better outfit him for the next one we are sure will eventually come.

We got his front lower arms and shocks on, and the swing arm and shock but cody was damn near in tears just handing me tools. i ran him back to the hospital to check his arm out again and thanikfully nothing bad to report.

doc did tell him that one more knock on the head and he should consider a year off:ermm: and that he doubts his elbow will heal enough by Lorettas to allow him to race. (that wil be 110% up to CJ as i trust him telling me if he is up to it or not)

either way we will be at the next round as i have to work it and hopefully he will be on the pegs as it were.

They always tell me to quit riding because of the multi-concussions I've suffered, but nothing will stop me. From hearing what Cody has to say and looking at pics of him riding, I'm sure he's the same way. Seems like a pretty tough kid with his head on strait!!! Keep up the good grades and hard riding, I really think with the great support from your family and your riding skills, you'll definatley go somewhere!!!!

thats a stupid attitude to have. many football players have been permanately injured from multiple concussions.

if you get one, the last thing you need is another before the first one has completely healed. thats when permanent damage occurs.

I have 6 concusion from playing soccer not to metion the times I have been knocked out wrecking my quad. And no it wasn't from hitting the ball with my head. I was a goalie been kicked in teh face twice and was flatten a few times. Its easier to get a concusion after the first one.

I had to stop playing soccer. truly it was getting dagruous. Somone just smacks the back of my head and it hurts now.
But I still ride. Doc said it wouldn't hurt me:confused: :huh ...OK DOC!:D

Thanks Joe, we always keep your family in our thoughts as we head out for the races. Cody always points at 66 and says"isnt that the way to 4punks house":p

thanks everyone else. today he actually has an elbow as the swelling has diminished alot over the past 24 hours. he is back to smiling and trying to tell me he will be ready for Lorettas..lol funny thing is he wont have a quad:p he will be sidelined but there for support for his friends.

hopefully his engine will be in late next week and then we can button up his quad about the same time he can ride again.

It's supposed to be the best protection from neck injuries for bike/atv racers and it's really starting to catch on.

It works like the HANs but in the reverse direction. It prevents your head from going to far forward, backward, left and right preventing neck injury.

I did order the sport model but it hasn't arrived yet...

Watch the fitment video...

The full carbon fiber ($1,000 model) isn't coming out until end of year.

/Jon I have a Sport model (only $400) and I love it. I had one wayy before they were so suddenly popular, now if you want to get one be prepared to wait a loooooong time. Like 8-12 weeks.

Geez, I paid $600. The Club model is $400 now. There is no strength difference...just a weight difference. I checked with them before ordering.

I ordered mine April 10th and received a note saying 6 weeks. I just called and they are expecting a big shipment in next week and will resume shipments. I don't mind waiting 6 weeks since they told me that upfront...I just hate when a company says 6 weeks but really mean 12. :grr:

From hearing what Cody has to say and looking at pics of him riding, I'm sure he's the same way. Seems like a pretty tough kid with his head on strait!!! Keep up the good grades and hard riding, I really think with the great support from your family and your riding skills, you'll definatley go somewhere!!!!

I wish you well Cody and hope to see you up and rolling on your new machine soon!!!!

Same here man. Ive been knocked out twice now, the 1st time wasnt so bad, the second time I was out for 20 minutes and lost 3 weeks of my memory and couldnt go back to school for another 2 weeks. 5 weeks behind is alot of work.

When a doctor says you should take time of to give your head a rest you should probably listen, I didnt when I was younger and now im a 16 year old who has sweet stuff all short term memory... My mates always have to remind me of things that have happened or things they have told me about that are coming up.... IT SUCKS...

Another mate who rides 2 wheelers had his helmet break completely of his head in a crash... He is fine now but that was the scariest news ive ever recieved through the school.

But on the other hand... Ive had a physio tell me I will never be able to walk up with a straight back again... That was not what I wanted to hear at the age of 14.... After 6 months of serious physio I stood up about as staright as its ever gona get and 9 months after the crash that stuffed my back I got back on the bike (as much as Mum didnt want me to) :macho
