I have had great luck with a Tusk clutch kit from Rocky Mountain in my XR400.(same motor) Can't be beat it for $44.99. I wen't thru 2 stock sets in a year. The tusk has last about the same time but is alot cheeper. They hook up good to. I will put one in my 400ex when needed.

Hinson clutch components / OEM Honda clutch plates is what I consider to be the best :o Granted it is more expensive but I don't like to mess around with the cheap stuff.

Installed a GT Thunder 8 Plate setup and I am pleased. Do not know about longevity but stock components are used. The pressure plate is machined to allow for an extra fiber. Not a bad price at about 215 for the kit. http://www.gtthunder.com/400EXClutchKit.html

stock has pretty good longevity, but i had problems with it gripping with the power adders i have on my bike. i run a Barnett Dirt digger and love it. no idea on the longevity yet, bu tit has lasted well over a year so far with no problems.
