Looking at pics and videos of races, I see that 99% of the quads have smaller front tires from the rear. When quads are sold at the dealership, the front tires are usually larger than the rear. What is the purpose of having smaller front tires?

almost all mxers run 20x6x10 fronts and most run 18x10x8's in rear. they are larger in front. xc racers run 22x7x10 fronts and 20x10x9's in rear. again larger in front.

I do believe some TT quads run either the same or slightly smaller fronts or atleast it looks that way

they might apear smaller on the front cause they are no where near as wide in the front as the rear. i would be really surprised if you could find more then 2 bikes on this site with smaller front then rear.

Yeah, like on my quad I have 20 inch tires on the front and 18's in the rear. It looks bigger on the back because they are so wide but it really isnt.

Damn, I need a new puter at work.

I was referring to the hieght of the tires and not the width. Looking at the videos on my home puter all the front tires now look taller. I think I must've been looking at mostly TT vids where I think they run on a flatter track than MX.

Who knows, I may have just been too sleepy since I missed my nap.

Thanx.

sometimes i'm set up with the same size front and rear because i run 20" razr mxs up front all the time and 20" stockers out back when i'm doing the muddy trails and need the extra clearance from my 18" razr mxs that i normally run everywhere else

The only time someone would probably run smaller tires in front is if they were drag racing. 99% of Banshees out there have smaller front tires...but that's because they do 0-60 in .0006 seconds and throw up a 100ft wall of sand:devil: .

Are the tires on racing quads the same size as I got with my quad or are they smaller?

I have a TRX400EX. I want to be able to hit the doubles and some big jumps when I get used to riding, but I just want to make sure that my tires aren't too large and have me thrown off my quad.

Are they stock?

Stock 400ex tires are 22x7x10 front and 20x11x9 rear

Most mx guys run 18-x-8, I put x because they range from 9-11 inches wide, no big difference really

Front 20x6x10 is the standard

You can run whatever you want, large tires will not cause you to fall off, suspension set up is the most important thing.

Width of the tire will determine the contact patch with the track. The wider the tire, the more contact. I thought I read earlier that someone stated a taller tire gives more contact. Maybe more contact over the whole of the tire. But there is only one part of the tire that matters during a race and that is the contact patch (the part of the tire touching the ground). The wider the tire, the greater the contact patch...that is why some will also lower tire pressure, to get a greater contact area.

So, with enough experience I should be able to hit doubles with no landing problems on my stock trx400ex? There is a local MotoX track here that I would like to ride on and become proficient on it, but the doubles have me spooked. There is one double I can take and a table top with no problems. I would just like to hear that there are others who have stock 400EXs and they ride them on MotoX tracks and just go wild.

I would also like to dl a training video for quads...any help?

Thanx.
