This is the CRF hybrid i have been working on over the winter. i started from scratch with my old 400ex frame. and i decided to make a custom subframe instead of the stock 400ex's, this was to eliminate all the unecassary mounts and what-not. next on the list is to make a custom aluminum airbox as soon as i get my intake tube. there are also a couple pics of some of the powdercoating that i did. as soon as im done with the port and polish i will send the frame for powdercoating.

Actually the one i have made is lighter by about a pound or so. due to the strait bar on the one side and eliminating all the battery mounts and stuff.

Not bad for a 17 yr. old ehh... thanks alot. this is the second subframe i had to make... the first one was a little crude and warped a little bit when i welded it.

before you PC that thing your missing some very important gussets if you can show me a full side pic ill point out where mine broke and you can go ahead and gusset those areas before hand and hopefully your frame will last and hold up better than mine has.

btw looks good work but your not done yet with that frame, sub looks good and ill get a picture of my new intake setup today if they are done with it.

after looking mine over two weeks ago we found over 15 cracks all over the frame, had to get out a florescent drop light and shearch for about 30 minutes, 2 broken motor mounts agian, 7 tabs that broke or just werent there from the beging, the main areas were the upper rails and the lower frame rails. and the rear rail that your rear shock mounts to. ill get pics of all the places im talking about to just dont want you to have as much trouble with your frame as i have ;) btw who is doing your rear shock setup??? its VERY important you have a good rear end with these

I did wrap the top and bottem frame rails and the bottem wrap goes 2in up the back rail. ill show you better pics, these ones are kinda crap quality and you cant see some of the gussetts well. but please post some pics or you intake setup and frame.

As for the rear end im going with a 1.25 in extended swingarm, and to help keep costs down i was going to get the derisi stock rebuilt to dual rate and MX linkage... is this a good setup? i cant afford a $1000+ rear end.

i was wondering about the rear end because the way the motor and front sprokets sit on these quads the chain gets EXTREMELY loose when the swingarm drops down 12 inches, baldwin figured this out and his rear setu for these is a shorter PEP big bottle and his 450r linkage this only gives 10 inches of down travel so that the chain wont get so loose that it can come off by hand which it will i threw my chain due to this problem and since i switched to this baldwin rear end i havent even had to adjust it yet, plus it really hooks up off the holeshot and eats whoops like there is no tomorrow. pm me if you want the right info to tell baldwin because i got this setup from a buddy so itll be under his name in baldwins files.

here are a few places i would gusset from experience on mine.

didnt get to see mine today but my bottom frame rails were so bad they are replacing them and then welding a solid chromoly skid across the whole bottom of my frame, to help the flexing and breaking issues, they are gusseting up my foot pegs simailer to yours, and putting about 10 more gussets on there and going over all the cracks and welds

looks good now you gotta do that intake and trust me if you want to get the most out of that motor the carb has to sit pefectly in the boot from the head to the carb, no angles or radiator hose, so once you sit the carb on there the right way your gonna have hell getting any kind of boot from that carb over the frame rail to an airbox and filter. this is a very good examle of what you can do, make sure your welds are good and take your time with the rear rail, because that pretty porting wont be worth squat if your intake dont line up good. this is being done to mine right now and i switched to a full sparks big-core and seat of the pants dyno says its a big difference.

this isnt mine but a picture i found on here, he does alot of hybrids but i forgot his user name

Nice looking build bro.
Honestly though, if you ride that frame hard, It'll crack to pieces sooo quick. The subframe looks like it needs more bracing also.

Nice build man....

...also, if you need any parts I'm parting out this quad and I live in NE ohio too. I figured I'd mention it because I've got a rear P.E.P. shock that is the old style that I'll sell for cheap and you can have baldwin work it to your specs.

Well, I've got most of it left so speak up if you want anything. I'd like to get $200 for the plastic. For another $50 I could give you a stock seat with a stock cover on it and a brand new in the box, straight black gripper seat cover.
