i dont understand k&n for off road things. they let in way too much air/dirt/stuff. UNI is the way to go imo.

I had a uni and it was almost like a stock filter, the K&N increase power better and they dont let in that much dirt.

I had one for a while and it let in WAY to much dirt..I even had the outerwears and everything. Everytime I would clean it there would be dirt in the intake boot...I even had to rebuild my engine cuz it was ticking...my piston had a gouge out of it...Then I switched to UNI and have used UNI only since...

ok so you gain 0.5 horsepower but the cylinder becomes scarred within 10 hours of ride time now your at negative 1.5 horsepower for the next 30 hours

It let in dirt even with the outerwears? I had one on my trx250r and It did fine for a few rides at the sand dunes and track. But it does get dirtier than the uni filter would. Yeah, thats a pretty good deal for the k&n. Thats how much uni's cost new.

ive been running a K&N filter on my quads since i first got my 400ex and i havent had any dirt in my intake boot ever, i actually have 4 and my brother has one for his 400, i even run them on my crf now.

my buddy had this problem with it letting dirt by and i finally figured out he wasnt cleaning and oiling it right, plus its best to oil a K&N and let the oil tack up for a good 24 hours in a sealed place so no dirt can get on the inside of the filter, i clean and oil all of mine at the same time and then put them in a tubaware container with a lid and when i go ride i grab a fresh filter every time. no biggie, i have a twin air and uni and a no-toil filter and i like the twin air the best but the k&ns are more consistant with oiling and such

thats jsut my take.

well thats definatley a good deal.

as far as which is better, its all just a matter of opinion. I've actually ran both the uni and the k&n, and yes the uni filter will block out more dust. but won't give quite as much of a power gain. the k&n on the other hand lets in just a little bit more dirt, but pretty much an almost unnoticable amount and you will gain a very slight minimal gain in power. Personally though I prefer the k&n for the slight gain over the uni, and I honestly haven't had any problems with either of them letting in dirt and causing damage. Either route you decide to go, they are both excellent air filters.

Thanks for all your help guys, Rootar what kind of oils do you use. I have that bbs stuff for filters that is extremely sticky but I am not sure if I should put it on the K&N.

k&n is a paper filter and has it's wn kind of oil...you should use that...i am like rootar...i have run K&n for several years ona few quads..never had anything in my intake boot...of course, i oil and clean them after every 3 rides. i let the oil set up for at least 48 hours( i am anal) before i re-install that filter into my quad...i went with twin a twin air on the 450r becuase i am going to be running with a trimmed airbox lid

I got a K & N Filter i just bought the recharge kit and recharge it and clean it every so often. But ofcourse i still have the stock airbox on it and resist alot of airflow coming in.

Unis are about $25 new, not $35.

K&N is a guaze, not a paper.

like some people, i have had problems with k&n. They let in a ton of dirt. I cleand and oiled it EVERY ride with the K&N recharger kit. i had two filters so that it could dry over night and it still let dirt in. I switched to UNI and havent had a problem.

Same here, I tried everything and it still let very fine dust through which is unacceptable in my book. Really dirtied up my FCR carb too. UNI is all I run now, haven't had a problem :D

Don't forget to figure in shipping & handling charges, if you're purchasing that way...
