Which am I better off with. I believe the OEM 87-89 is better than the hot rod long rod.. let me know what you think..

I think a few of us are going to ride at mecco sandpits (weather depending), Im gonna call mcgrath and see if he wants to bring up the pitbike or something...get that thing together and lets go braaaping:p

either get a new OEM crank or have the old one rebuilt with a pro-X rod by someone that specializes in 2-stroke cranks.

Does anyone have real info about the Hot rods crank? Good bad otherwise? I've now got one person who says junk and another one a racer that says he's had great luck. So now I'm back to zero input basically. Pro-X rod is wha $100 plus rebuild $$$? How much should a rebuild on a crank cost? Hot Rod crank for $178 buy it now on ebay.

A rebuild to press a new rod/bearing is normally 100.00 bucks. Pro-x kit 80 bucks.. 180.00 dollars to me is better than the 180.00 hot rod crankshaft. I went the pro-x rod bearing kit and going to have it pressed. I heard hot rods can be great but ya never know that one out of 100 could be yours.

to me a whole new OEM crank assembly is the best option at $250

IDK why, but alot of people knock the hotrod. It has lasted longer than one of the 3 stockers I have gone through in the last 12-14 years...

I had mixed luck with a hot rod crank. 3 rebuilds and ~3 years on one, 86 short rod. When the counterbalancer blew up taking out the cases, the crank was in spec. I had a 87-89 hot rod in another motor, 2 high compression top end, 1 330, and high compression 310pv and the crank was junk. My friends had worse luck, one had a total of ~20 hours on his and the crank was out of spec, similar times with some others. I will spend the $250 for a 88/89 stock crank and never look back to a hot rod crank. I have good luck with them and they seam to be more consistant. What mixture you are guys doing?? Odd, but my friends that had no luck with hot rod cranks used 50:1 mixture, I always use 32:1. I'm not a fan of hot rods, but I can't knock them too much, as I have been told that hot rods don't like high compression and big bore top ends much. And the combination of the 2 is what I use.

Well I've always found OEM to be the best. I've had a few hot rods and two bearings went bad both around 30 hours. I had an OEM that lasted a full race seasion and then I sold the bike. I dont have anything against Hot rods.. But I think I will have best luck with a pro-x rod/bearing and oem crankshaft. I run 40:1
