I have seen nobody that says they have the stg 3 cam on here. the dealer thats doing my 440kit right now recommended it because HC says the stg 3 is good for bigbore kits and still retains factory valvetrain. is there something i dont know about the stg3 cam?

I think some of it is just that the Stage 3 just hasn't been around all that long.
Here's a comparison of the specs on the four 400EX cams Hotcams has made:
1007-1: Stage 1, always has been.
1008-2: The original stage 2. Sometimes called "old stg 2" and sometimes called stg 3. No longer being manufactured.
1043-2: The current stg 2. Replaced the 1008-2.
1051-3: The current stg 3. Use to be called the "Stroker" cam by Hotcams. They droped the Stroker designation although they do say, "...Designed specifically for Hot Rods big bore stroker kit..." in the product description.
Cam: Intake lift; Exhaust lift; Intake duration; Exhaust duration
1007-1... .354, .354, 246, 246------Intake centerline 106, Exhaust centerline 107
1043-2... .354, .350, 254, 248.5----Intake centerline 106, Exhaust centerline 104.25
1008-2... .348, .349, 254, 254------Intake centerline 106, Exhaust centerline 107
1051-3... .358, .354, 262, 257------Intake centerline 110.5, Exhaust centerline 104.5
compared to stock
stock..... .316, .302, 234, 238
The stage 3 is a bit more aggressive than the current stage 2, but it's not as wild as some of the really lumpy WEBs or Megacycles. I think the stg 3 would be fine with an 89mm piston ("440" kit). If it were me I might prefer the 1008-2. But it would depend on what compression ratio piston I was using and how easily I could find a 1008-2.
just info and $0.02

i have an old stage 2 (1008-2) and love it. i have ridden the same bike with teh stage 3 (stroker) cam and the old stage 2 (1008-2) cam. the only real difference i felt was a slight loss of bottom end with the astage 3 and it pulled harder on top than the stage 2. but it was actually on a stroker bike.

i have a hot cams stafe 3 in my 440. I love it it gives me some more top end form a super torqy motor, it almost hits like a 2 stroke in the mid to uper rpm range. if you are going to put a stage 3 in, I would recommend geting a port and polish on your head. Its well worth it. I hope that helps you
