Here is the video of my quad. I'm jsut wondering how it sounds compared to others stock 400s. It rides great, the other day I stayed head to head against a z400 with intake, exhaust, and rev box. I beat him off the line on the second race. Just curious if it sounds ok.

Sounds like every other stock 400.

Thank you. That ticking kinda noise always scared me and I didn't remember ever really hearing another one do that.

Your valves may need adjusted. What year is it?

Wish I could, I'm 16. Rents bought me the quad and I have my girlfriend's sweet 16 in a month. I just dumped like $150 to get her Uggs. I start work at a BK on Monday so within a few paychecks I'll have a pipe and intake. As I said before though, I beat a z400 with pipe, intake, and rev box. I don't even want to know what it will pull like with me on there. I only weigh 135:devil:

Which of the ones listed is the quitest? I'm looking for aftermarket, but not too loud. I love when people ask me if its my quad that sounds like a helicopter at idle:cool:

Alot of people recommend HMF. But, too loud for me. My friend has one on his 400, and no lie, I could hear him clearly about 2 miles away in the woods. It was rediculous. I know I'm not going to go White Bros, I've heard people say it was just dumb loud and they lost power. So, I'm going to research the exhaust threads and see whats up.

Which "White Bros" are you talking about? There are different ones avail, the E-series has tunable discs and optional Spark Arrestor, huge difference there. Mine is not that loud with the spark arrestor and 12 discs. I've heard many other exhausts like HMF, FMF, Pro circuit that are ear splitting loud.
Totally depends on which one and how the set up is.

The E-series is the one I heard all the complaints about

Too loud, and quad felt like it lost power from stock.

TOO LOUD!?! LESS POWER!?! Somebody seems to have forgtten that the can mount tab breaks off of nearly every stupid e-series pipe that was made. Oh well.

Also, if anyone takes a peek inside their engine, they might see that Honda uses 8 "rockers" instead of the traditional 4 rockers required for a normal 4-valve overhead unicam engine. However, with Honda's "helical head", all of the valves must have 4 regular rockers to actually acutate the valves, and then 4 more angled sub-rockers for the regular ones to bear on, so that the valves are driven through their guides at the proper angle. This can lead to excessive noise and higher head temps than "normal" engines, but for some reason I don't mind. It's quite durable, and the 400 engine is tolerant to heat and abuse anyway. Just my .02. It's possible that your valves are perfect, but the noise gets you. PLEASE check them anyways.

I have an FMF titanium4 and a hi-flo header (FMF) and it's a noticable increase in power. I haven't even coughed up the $$ for a filter yet. It's also rather quiet with my new packing. EBay + rebuilding an old system is the way to go. I dropped $207 on everything to do with that system, and it's perfect.

For sure your going to hear more valve noise with a stock exhaust and be concerned, who wouldn't be.

Loss of power means its not jetted correctly.

I guess exhaust discussion should be elswhere.
