sending ringtones

i have heard people talk about sending mp3's from their computers to their cell phones to use as ringtones to avoid spending $2-5 from their provider. Has anyone ever heard of this and how do I do it???

i can do it with my razr v3xx from cingular..but i need to buy a memory card for it first
