The second gear is out of my 400ex sure of it. How much will it cost to fix it myself. How much would a shop charge to do it. What parts would I need for sure. Is it possbly to do it yourself I will have the help of some mechanis though.

Well lets see your lookin prob. around $80 for both gears. Another 50 bucks for a full engine gasket kit......might as well throw atleast a set of rings in it.....20-25. And labor for cases at a bike shop prob. somewhere in the vacinity of $30 an hour.....prob. about 2-4 hours of work. But i wouldnt take it to a Actualy dealer. They would prob. rip your weeny off and see if they can squeeze any money out of it also, so ide prob. just take it to some small shop guy, it isnt that hard of a job to do!

I wouldnt do it myself unless I/u had alota knowledge about bottom ends.
It wont be cheap, thats for sure.
Like extreme said, put in a new set of rings if your 416 has been ran a decent amount. Better now while you got the top-end apart
