Hi guys, Im looking to build up my ex this season on a reasonable budget. Im building a 79 Z-28 along with the quad so Im trying to split money up 70/30. As of right now, its a 02 400ex, I have a 41mm FCR carb thats wayyyyy to big for my stock motor. I just ordered a hmf slip on and a uni to try to cope with some of the bog that the carb has. Over the next few weeks im looking to get a high rev cdi box and a new ignition coil. But heres my main question, I want it bored out, but Im trying to get the most power with the most reliablity at the best price, ya I know that makes it kinda hard. Ive heard that 440's are the least reliable and often blow up, then Ive herd that 416's dont do much for you power wise so I was thinking a 427. Can anyone recomend what route I should head down. Cams, pistons, ect. Also what bore you would go with. I ride mostly trails with the occaisonal track thrown in a few times a month. Thanks guys, Ryan

well sounds like you have a similar set up as me.

i have a 41mm FCR, K&N filter, and HMF slip on. as for bore, i have a 426 and could not be happier with it. i have a stage 2 hotcam (older version) and the head has been ported and polished. for reliability i have an HD cam chain and HD studs. the 426 gives a great power increase, lots of low end, and the cam gives alot on top. the power is awesome and mine has been togeth for over 3 years now with no problems.

How much did you pay for the set up?

its between a blown 350 or a 502 for the maro. I was looking on powerolls site and they say they do bore kits, they dont have the 426 on there does anyone know if they do it or not? Anyone delt with them before, do they do good work?

well i did all the work myself. but for parts:
cam:150
piston:150
port&polish:250
carb: freebie
bore:49
HMF:200
K&N:50

$850 in just parts and the labor i could not do like the port job and bore. plus a new carb would be about $600 from what i have seen. i could not be happier overall, it pulls from bottom to top, just rode it hard all weekend and it never ran hot, never stumbled at all (first ride since P&P and carb)

www.fourstroketech.net sells big bore kits super cheep. Not sure if they come with it all or not but their listed really CHEEP!!!

If you want a cheep mx front end get some ASR A-arms for like $300 and 450r or YFZ front shocks.
