I picked up a set of yfz shocks and covers for 165 shipped to my door. Took me about 2 hrs to make them fit. Very good results. It will lower your quad by about an inch with stock arms. I can go lower than it is in the pics.

I am aware that I dont have a motor in it.:)

Thats pretty cool man, but if it was me I would send them out to Derisiracing or GT thunder for a rebuild. But nice looking 400ex anyway

Kool man. How is the ride? I like to trail ride, but also hit big jumps. I think they will be really nice when I get +2 arms over the summer.

Does n e one have a real indepth guide on how to install them. I was wondering if i could just knock that plastic mount bolt off then either zip tie or put a lil rivit in it. Just like you can the 450r's i know a kid who did the 450r i really would rather have the yfz shocks tho.

I am thinking of doing a write up on how to do it. I still have to take one shock off to make it perfect.

would there be intrest in that? It sucks that the shock is already done, because then I cant walk you through step by step, but I can explain it in detail.

I can explane it in a matter of seconds. The bottom of the shock fits snug. The top of the shock, that mounts into frame is to fat. Need to grind it skinnier and you have yfz fronts on your ex.

Top mount needs to be 20 mm wide. Also needs to be tripped on the back to clear the mount on the frame. It clears the nut for the plastic without a problem.

I like to hear about any mods like this for any quads. Just fun to know how to make parts fit on quads they're not made for and be a nice upgrade. So I would definetely read it, tho a step-by-step is always nice.

Their already is a step by step yfz and 450r front shocks on ex. Just have to search the forums and theirs a thread not to long ago with what parts off other quads fit 400ex.
A nother cheep mod is stock 250r a-arms on ex. Makes it 2" wider. Just need to shave the bushings skinnier.

Or you can make sure its an '88 or '89 250r a-arms and they fit right in from what I'm told

so would you have to do anything to the shock after grinding it down. Or just slap em on.

Going without the motor will shave alot of weight off.

Just narrow the top mount, make sure it clears, and bolt her up. Easy to do. Then go for a ride and adjust them the way you like.
