Alright so the place I ride there is a lot of sand (basically like a dune) but also the trails that branch out get a lot less sandy... question is how fast would the tread wear if I were to get a set of paddles in the back?

depends how hard you ride them and how often.

It depends on the tires and it depends on how you treat them. Some paddles will last forever even with some abuse. Others need to be ridden in clean sand only if they are expected to last.

Lemme help this guy out. Molded paddles such as this one:

will last much longer than glued-on paddles such as this one:
http://www.rockymountainatv.com/RMATV-Images/productImages/400/t/t_hau_tire.jpg
on hard surfaces such as dirt, pavement, rocky ground, etc.
THIS IS A RULE OF THUMB!!! Some cheapo molded paddles (AMS) won't even hold up in sand.
