installing/jetting 38mm airstryker?

I'm installing a 38mm Airstryker on an 86 250r.
What intake do I need for it to match up?
Can I use the stock airbox and boot?
As far jetting, what would be a good starting point?
I have a stock size/ compression cylinder with a mild recreational porting, v force 2 reeds, stock airbox w/ uni filter and cover removed, and an FMF fatty w/ FMF silencer.

use a hairdryer on the boot and work it on....it'll stretch. 175 MJ

have a buddy help you with this...........


take large pot water and heat it up on the stove and insert the air box to carb boot. allow to remain just before the water starts to boil. while wearing gloves take the boot and work it onto the carb. once you've done this have your buddy install a large zip tie. allow to sit until cool. once it sets up it will hold its shape.

the same can be done with the stock intake boot but, is hell to do. you may wanna consider a UPP aftermarket intake boot.

i would start the jetting at 50 on the pilot and 168-70 on the main. needle set in mid position.

make sure that the float is set to proper level and that the float needle is working right.

first get the pilot circuit dialed in and then perform plug chops to fine tune the main. afterwards focus on the needle(mid throttle). once this is done, perform a final WOT plug chop for the hell of it.

a cr250 intake will bolt on also,they are made for a 38mm carb,are a little shorter so may want to add a reed spacer to get midrange back in powerthe 50-52 pilot and 170-172 main works real well with a ddj needle,i think the dgh needle likes a 175-178 main

when using the cr intake boot you'll most likely need the reed spacer to make up the difference of the short intake.

the dgh dgj are good needles although some like the cel ceh needles aswell

I dont like the DGH or DEK at all. Tried the CEL and liked it a lot. Tried a CEJ for giggles, didnt like it ... went back to CEL. Thinking of trying CGH.

oh man gettin the boot on is the biggest pain in the *** ever. Use a dryer and take your time lol

Yeah I took me a while to figure out how to get the airbox boot on. I used a heat gun, got it nice and warm. You gotta work it pretty good. I think what I did was get the bottom part on then hold that and used like the shaft of a screwdriver to get the top part on. Once its on, it usually stays, slip the clamp on and its good.

what differences are you all seeing from one needle to another and what set up is on your bike ie motor, size and porting pipe airbox, riding style and location
