rancher help!!!!

I have a 350 rancher (not electric shift) that was sticking in fourth and difficult to shift. cluthc was good. thought maybe broken shifter fork. I split the case, tranny was fine, measured everything to specs, reassembled. Now the thing is in reverse with the neutral light on. any advice before I split the case again??? thanks in advance

if it's shifting fine, but the neutral light is on when it's in reverse, You might have the neutral and the reverse wires reversed on the sensors

I had a rancher do that to me, it would shift up, but wouldn't shift down. It wasn't the shift fork in the tranny, it was in the shifter linkage that turns the shift drum, one side, i can't remember whether it was the top or bottom, had torn a small amount so that it wasn't turning the shift drum enough to down shift.
