Cut stock grab bar off drill 4 new holes and 250r grab bar fits perfect.

450r rear shock works but is shorter than stock so it lowers rear ride hight.

Yfz450 front shocks fit if you grind the top eye hole skinnier.

250r front shocks work but im pritty sure their a little shorter than stock.

People have used 250r rear shocks but their a bit longer than stock eye to eye.

250r A-arms fit just need to shave the sleaves skinnier that the bolts go threw to mount them to frame.

250r axle fits if you use the 250rs hubs.

250r rear sprocket fits

xr400 head gasket fits and makes the ex motor higher compression

xr400 cam works and is about good as a stage 1 hot cam.

450r bumper

450r pegs fit

Handle bars

jets

450r carb fits

yfz/yz carb fits

Lots of differant nerfs will fit.

Just last night I tried to put an Axis 250r shock on a 400ex. The top shock mount on the 400ex frame is too narrow. To fit a 250r rear shock on a 400ex, one would need to grind the sides of the top of the shock down so that it is more narrow. You would also need to cut or narrow the metal bushing for the top of the shock. So, it could be done, but I didn't want to start grinding on an Axis shock.

Front shocks will interchange between a 250r and 400ex. They are slightly different lengths, but nothing significant enough to change the ride height more than an inch or so.

I have heard there are some issues with running a 450r steering stem on a 400ex. I was too lazy to find the post on this forum discussing the same.

I find that there are so many 400ex parts out there that they are cheaper than many parts for other models. But I also understand that once in a while someone will have a better part laying around for a different quad and they want to see if it will fit. That was the case with my Axis rear shock.

Yamaha light bolbs fit the front lights too. I remember going to the shop to buy new front light bolbs and they sold me yamaha front bolbs because they said their the same but the yamahas were cheeper

Thats what you have to do to fit yfz fronts on. If it was ground to fit the 400ex you could still use it on the 250r just have to add a couple washers.

I know, I just can't bring myself to grinding on such an expensive shock.

On another note, YFZ and Raptor hubs will fit the 400ex and the 450r for that matter.

I'd check on this before buying a 450r carrier. You can put a 400ex carrier into a 450r swingarm keeping the small amount of excess sticking out to the left for proper chain alignment. I don't think a 450r carrier will fit all the way through a 400ex so you can get the clip on that holds the rear brake rotor mount.

2007 450r swing arm it's an inch and a half longer you will need a new chain but it's well worth it The stock 400ex carrier will fit but I had to put shims on sides behind the sprocket and also behind the brake rotor to take up some side to side play

I could see some shims on the sprocket side but you shouldn't need any on the rotor side. The carrier should be pushed over to the left as far as it can go. Once your torque down the carrier bolts to 16 ft/lbs, it shouldn't shift to one side or the other.

Probably didn't have to but I didn't want to eat up a sprocket or a rotor so was just a safty measure on my part if I remember it like 1/8 on both sides not a lot but enough to shim

All the changes to the swingarm and the carrier are on the sprocket side. If you shifted the 400ex carrier to the right at all then there is a slight alignment issue with the sprockets. You probably can't even tell and it probably won't do any harm. I just know I measured this all out a couple of years ago.

250r bumper fits, you just have to bend the bottom mounts out about 1/4" and the top ones in 1/4". This can be done with a bench vise or a pipe wrench very easily and it only takes a few minutes to do. I'm running a 250r bumper and so is a friend of myn, simply because they were at a swap meet brand new for $11. :)

Cbr600 clutch should fit the 400ex
450R have lots of interchangeable parts
XR400 engines are the same as 400ex beside the kickstart and the starter
Front caliper of a YZ450 are a good improvement dual piston over 1 and they are a bolt-on

kfx 450r front shocks fit but you have to modify the upper mount by fabricating a wider area to fit the shock in then weld in place. i had to do it on mine
