I just got a did erv3 chain and it doesn't use the clip that we are all familair with. Looks like it presses on and nothing more. No keeper clip. Anyone know about this?

Are you sure its not on the backside of the chain. If not I never seen these?

It's called a rivet connecting link. Almost all street bike chains use it but it's overkill on a 400ex. You need a special tool to press the link and then you have to "peen" the ends of the pins.

You can do it with a hammer and punch but its a freakin nightmare and really isnt worth it for no more then a standard clip type master link costs. Id go buy one and throw that rivet style one away.

I've used both the ERV2 and the ERV3. IMO, the DID ERV3 is the best chain money can buy. Does a 400EX need a chain of that caliber? Probably not. But know that the chain is outstanding before you decide to shelve it for another option.

Don't just put any old clip-style master link on there. If your going to use the chain, use the master link that was made for it (DID does not make a clip-style for the ERV3).

I use this chain breaker/press set from MotionPro. It works well.

Thanks for the replys fellas. The ERV3 is going on my Houser hybrid. It makes just a little more power than my 400ex did.

I went to my local dealer and got a ER2 clip and an atv X-ring clip. One of those should be OK. The guy said it's OK to do just be sure that the clip I have doesn't make a fat spot in the chain.

I have a hard time paying $150 to use a tool maybe once a year.
