View Full Version : do i bore the new sleeve?

the new sleeve i got is 87mm and the new piston is 89 do i have to bore it or did they send me the wrong sleeve, i think they sent me the wrong sleeve but wanted to check the sleeve i think is for a 426 and my bumb a** already put the sleeve

That would be a 416. I dont think you'd want to bore that out because it will probably be to thin. But id atleast call them and figure out what happened, mistakes are made everyday.

its not even a 426 huh? man that sucks i had a brand new cyl i just droped the sleeve in, how much you think i mech shop will charge to take out the old sleeve and put the 440 sleeve in

no most big bore sleeves do not come pre bored because every piston is different. you have to bore it to the piston you have. if it is a big bore sleeve then it should work with a 440.

ya but a full 2mm? just seems like alot, i dont care about boring as long as thats what needs to be done

yupp because most big bote sleeves are made for a smaller piston. like most people recommend using a BB sleeve on a 426 even though it is not needed.

my big bore kit cost me 160 to have machined, the new sleeve was about 87 mm and they bored it to the 89, so I think we are in the same boat, what kit is it?

i got it fro c&d racing, my sleeve is a 87 and needs to be a 89, its a JE 10.5:1 440 kit, i ordered the crf timing chain and cometic gasket, with stage 2 hot cam. do you know if i need shims for this cam

Yep that sounds right. I just put mine 440 together a month ago, bought it off EBay. I had to have the cylinder bored out to take the oversize sleeve. Then have the sleeve bored out to the 89mm piston.
