Hey i was just wondering how much power an aftermarket cam adds when combined with just minor mods (exhaust and air filter). I was thinking about getting a hotcams cam for my 400EX which is stock except for K&N filter and HMF full system (on the way) but im not sure which one i should get without having to get stronger valve springs or valves. Would i be able to run the stage 2 safely or should i just stick to stage 1? thanks

stay stage I with stock bore and strock, and even with it you may not feel the power increase if it all... it will be there but probly not noticeable. but thats just my two cents...

i have a 426 with the old stage III hotcam which is the new style stage II basicly, the upper stages are for more modified engines.

If you want to know in your head your machine is performing that little bit better, go for it, but unless you start heavily modn dont mess with it. and for the valves springs, there fine with the first stage.

So in your opinion should i save my money and not bother with it?

I would save a little more and add a high compression piston while your at it, then youll see the differance. But no I wouldnt spend the money on just the cam. It would be better spent on just a piston in all honesty.

In your guys' opinion what is the best thing to put on for a power gain with the cheapest cost? like best bang for the buck horsepowerwise?

Cam and piston is the best bang for the money IMO, adding an exhaust and carb will really open it up but can cost much more.
