Anyone heard of a Shindengen CDI box??? I bought this thing used and this is what is on it, marked "WB" in white marker all over it. I believe this is where all my starting troubles is coming from.

This is a 400ex bored to 426 with hotcam, full curtis sparks exhuast, geared, K&N intake..... think i should try to find a better more cdi that cranks easier or just run the stock cdi box??

thanks for any and all input!

shindengen builds some of the cdi's for honda in japan. they're a japanese electrical supplier like denso. what you probably have is a xr250 cdi that was sold aftermarket by white bros. and others. they will make it hard to start if your battery cranks slow because that cdi is designed for a kickstart.

how big of a difference does adding a cdi box add?

It makes a pretty big difference. your bike can revv higher with the cdi therefore some more power. Definitely a good mod, but I would buy one that is specified for your type of quad. I have a big gun overrev on my trx450r.
