I need some help, I know that 450r shocks work on a 400ex, but does any of the other adjustable shocks work? I mainly trail ride and I'm just looking for a better feel than stock. Also, how do you go about adjusting the rear stock for a smoother ride. Any suggestions will be greatly helpful. Thanks.

Setting compression to softer and rebound to slower will help smooth out the rear shock.

Of course, this will cost you when jumping / going thru rough stuff at high speed.

Better, send your rear shock to GT Thunder and get their rear linkage.

HUGE improvement.

(in fact, send your replacement front shox to them also)

check ebay they have some used for around $200. The best are probably works, axis, pep, and elka

Why not? We just got a stock rear 400 shock, re-sprung and valved, back with linkage and it was a thousand percent better.

Stock EX rear, yes.

Stock EX fronts, no.

I assumed he was referring to the stock rear because when he quoted you, you had already mentioned the replacement 450r fronts.

Man the front shocks are just preload adjustable aka they suck for agressive riding/racing. U cant really make them better cause u cant really adjust them
