Will shocks from a 400ex work on a 300ex and will it be an upgrade?

Thanks,

Thanks,

They will fit with a shockmount relocator bracket. You can find them on ebay or sometimes in the for sale section on here. The 400ex stock shocks aren't too much better than the 300ex ones but you will gain wheel travel. You could always run stock 400ex shocks and upgrade to aftermarket 400ex length shocks later if you are on a tight budget. The relocator and 400ex length shocks will work with stock or aftermarket a arms also as long as the shocks are set up properly for them.

I have some yfz450 shocks that are 200% better than the stockers. 16" eye to eye but if you put the preload all the way to the top it should be able to compress down a extra 2". might fit with no mods.

How are you gaining wheel travel? The arms and tie-rods haven't changed. Sure there might be more shock travel, but that does not mean you gain wheel travel.

My thoughts here are that I want a shock that is stiffer then the stock 300ex shocks. I want more load capacity (I weight 250lb) and still provide some dampening. I also don't need anything fancy as I dont ride MX or anything, just playing around in the dirt.

Thanks,

You're right... I meant to say shock travel. Fingers get ahead of the brain sometimes.:o I would think there would still be some gain in wheel travel as well but it wouldn't be much.

ludvic- the 400ex stock shocks would probably still be too soft for a 250# rider. Aftermarket shocks would be a better choice IMO.

OK, What should I be looking for then. I am a snowmobiler as well and on most performance sleds they use Fox Shox that are rebuildable. You can change the valving for rider weight, riding style etc. What type of shock fits this catagory for an ATV? Can you please add some links as well? I dont want to spend a fortune on a 13 year old quad, just something reasonable that is an upgrade.

Thanks,

Thanks,

Works shocks would be about the cheapest solution. They can be built to rider weight, style, etc...

To save a few bucks you could find a used set on here or ebay and get them rebuilt/revalved for your weight and riding style.

Agree with the post above. I know there are going to be WORKS haters in here tellin you F-WORKS buy the elka, pep, custom axis setup, but i ran works tripple rate a.t steelers for years on my stock ex, and for someone looking for a budget upgrade that just wants to bolt it up to their trail machine and ride they are perfect.

Buy some stock ones again or some cheap works that will make a big difference than stock.

Im sure they do, but they are probably just the opposite and will never bottom and are way too stiff. You should be bottoming out every once in a while, if you are not, you are not using the full travel of your shock.

Well they can bottom I was just saying dont bottom because you have to jump high to bottom them. Or if you have the ride hight set at the lowest their pritty soft.
