engine problem

i have an 2001 400ex it started ticking i adjusted the valves and it still ticks,so i pulled off top cover and looked at the rocker arms and cam,there was know wear marks on them.what could it be?

Check the timing chain.

It could be be the cam chain tensioner too. When they go bad they make a sound thats a lot like lifter tick.

Dont know how bad its ticking, but 400 have a slite "tick" too them. One of my friends has a 01 in great shape cosmetic and mechanical and it has a loud tick too it. Some motors just sound that way. But yea check the obvious timing,gaskets, its a easy but dumb mistake check the oil.

couold it be the decompresion crap on the cam?the timing chain and tensioner seem to be good,anything else?

I dont know about the Decompression thing, i would like to though cuz we rebuilt a friends with new timing chain and the tensioner was good... and it makes a loud ticking noise... and the Decompression thing is the only thing i didnt know about..


but mine runs like a champ and it ticks plenty loud, most 400ex's have a tick to them... but you cant hear it over the exhaust...
