ok i want to get a 416 kit for my 400ex, and i want to go with a JE piston 87mm 12:1, and a Hotcams stage 3 cam, ive got a k&n air filter and a Jet kit on already i do not have a new exhaust,

can anybody tell me if this would be a good setup,

and where i can get a good gasket kit for the topend

also do u have to get a heavy duty timing chain and head studs or does it really matter to much

any help would be appreciated

I think it is a good setup but I dont know if I would like the stage 3 cam, I think you should go stage 2,You would also probably want to get an exhaust system if all this motorwork is going in so your bike can breathe and exhaust properly. You should get heavy duty head studs, and a new cam chain. As for the gaskets you should be able to find a set on ebay or check out c&d racing on this site.

11:1 piston you'll probably need head studs. 12:1 you'll need a rod.

so if i would go with the 10.8 piston would i be ok without head studs

I used stock studs on a 406 witha 10.8.1 JE piston for two years with no problems. If you have the money though get the HD's, you can never have a motor that's too reliable.

So if i go with the JE 11:1 piston and a hotcams stage 2 cam, and then might as well throw in the heavy duty head studs and a heavy duty timing chain and then a good gasket set.

I guess do it right the first time right.

ive got a wiseco 11:1 416 with stg 2 cam, 450 cam chain and stock studs and it runs strong. If you got the money get them but they are not needed.

an alternative to putting in HD studs is heli-coiling the studs in....this way there is more bit for the steel to chew on rather than just aluminum...thats all i got done with mine...i have 11:1 ross piston and decked head
