2006 400ex...big problem...

I was riding earlier today around the house. I was riding around in second and when i went to shift into first it kicked into reverse without me even touching the reverse switch. This of course made an awful noise...so i stopped and when i tried to take off again, all my gears were in reverse...doesnt matter what gear i shift it into it still goes in reverse. ANY info, suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.

????? thats really wierd, my guess would be that maybe there is a reverse relay on the case somewhere that came loose or is making bad contact,

that would be my first guess

I would call your local dealership or honda directly and explain what happened... sounds like a major saftey issue that they would probably like to know about. I know that doesn't really help you any but thats what I would do first.

call the honda dealer.there was a recall on the 05 400EX for this exact problem.im not sure if the recall was for the 06 or not but the dealer can tell you

Thank all of you for the advice...I called the dealer and it turns out that there was a recall on the 06 also...and they are fixing it free of charge

i havent had the problem with my 05 yet.the recall may have been done before i bought it at the dealer.i bought it new,maybe i should go see the dealer and find out if its been done or not and have it done if it wasnt.
