I would put in a 416 with a stage 1 hot cam. I wouldn't go over 11:1 compression so you can run pump gas. I have this set up and it has proven very reliable. Also make sure you take the time to set up your carb right after you install everything.

I have a stg 1 hotcams and it has great low end. i can actually slow down on a hill climb for curvy trails and keep going very easily.

Have you tried dropping a tooth on the front sprocket?

Well before going into the engine possibly try the 13 tooth front sprocket, thats what I run on mine, top end sucks but I ride tight trails for the most part and its great. It will make a difference. But if that doesn't satisfy I guess the high comp piston/cam combo will suit you well...
