ok the z400 is NOTHING like a 400ex, back when i had it, my z with just a pipe kinda kept up with 450s, my friends 400ex with a full sparks pipe and pro-flow kit couldnt even touch my z... i mean i like his 400ex so much i actually let him ride my quad so i can take his, ex's are comfortible, and nice in the air, but NOTHING like a z.
but to give my opinion on your question, dont get rid of the ex.. there personally my favorite quad, they wheelie great, move around in the air great, and are just the best looking quad. and even though there slow, you could always do more engine mods

Are you stupid? Z400's have water cooled engines. 400 ex's dont. There frames are way different. There ergonomics are way different. Everything is different about them. I dont know why you think that its a copy of the 400 ex.

well u already have a 400, so if your going to spend money on a new quad, get the one with more motor mods so it will be worth the money, unless its beat and the other ones not

do you guys think that 3200 is kinda pricy for a 03 z400? im gonna try to talk him down to around 2900

why sell yours for an 03 z400? your getting the year of z400 with the weak frame and it has the same shocks your 400 does. the only thing you will gain is water cooling and reverse but in return you get a very weak frame.

if the z400 was an 05 or newer then yes i wonder consider doing the swap, youll get better shocks and a bigger carb over the 03/04 z400s. the 04 z400s and up have the newer frames on them, you can spot the new frames if the grab bar is removable.

dont forget about 450s! hope this helped you

I prefer my Z over any EX I've ridden. I think it handles better and has more usable power. I thought the EX was great until I rode my first Z. But that's just my opinion.

Also, if the bike hasn't or won't be MXd the frame is of little concern too. Lesson # 3 for you, a water cooled engine has WAY more potential to make more power than an AIR cooled engine. Ray.

well would the one with the motor mods be better or stick with the one that has no motor mods done to it?

getting a liquid cooled engine and reverse is reason enough. For those who say the Z400 is like the 400ex have you even rode both? The Z400 was concieved for one thing and one thing only: To destroy the 400EX. and stock/stock it did. Everyone pissed thier pants for the 400ex back in the day. Ya it rocked but its rein is long over.

I say swap, welcome to team Suzuki

from what i understand, in 05 they got new shocks and a 2mm bigger carb. wrong or not that is what i read on numerous forums. in 04 they got new frames and updated chain adjusters.

i rode my 03 z farely hard in the woods, ran a few harescrambles with it. when it was time to be sold i was checking it all out and the frame rails under the oil tank were tweaked. i rode zero mx on it yet it was still tweaked, to say the frames are not weak is an understatement.

get the one with the modded motor just check them both through because 3200 is cheap i payed 3600 for mine but you will like the one with at least some mods just if the one without mods looks in better shape then go with that one.

oh ya, sorry dude I got distracted....get the modded bike...the price difference still makes the modded bike a great deal.

i agree with that! i have a buddy with an ex and my 03 z (both machines stock) would out run his no problem. and with mods there was no contest. if you've ever seen a dyno on em then you'd see that the ex doesnt gain much from simple mods although i have no doubt they can both be made competitive the z gains more hp easier. and the frames sre of minimal concern unless you're really jumping alot. if it still bothers you, you can get a gusset kit for $75 and have them welded in and then no worries.

ive got a 2004 dvx400(lt400) and a buddy of mine has an 05 400ex with the same mods and theyre exactly the same speed wise his is a lil more torquey but not a big enough difference to really matter, and whoever said theyre z is runnig with a 450 with just a pipe is on crack was the 450 rider a 5 year old...
