hey guys im new around here.
finally got my 400ex, was looking at 450r, but unfortunately couldnt afford it!
ive been riding since i was a little tike, was riding 250x when i was 12, and finally got my own bike last week.
its a 2004 400ex, with CHM pipe and K&N filter, its fun to ride, but my brother bought a 440ex, and ive been riding that, he's not used to it yet. i have a feeling he's going to want it back soon :p i want to put the 440 kit in mine too, with stage 2hotcam, local dealer said its bolt in, comes with a new cylinder, but i have read other places that it needs to be bored out, and some machine work done to the block and head.

what are my options here? new to the bigbore thing. thanks! plan to stick around here for a while and hope to learn some more

I suggest a 416 or a 426 either is very relieable.

do the 416 bore with 4mm stroker and u'll smoke his 440 if its just a big bore. ive had both big bore 440 and the 440 stroker and the stroker pulls harder

I have a 440 and I love it. I havent had any problems with it at all. Buy a manual and make sure you know what your doing before you install the kit. It seems a lot of people on this site don't know how to build a well running 440 but don't let there negative comments scare you.:blah::devil:

I recommend you buy HD Studs and a HD cam chain, a lot of people dont install HD head studs and then come on here complaing about blowing head gaskets all the time. Don't skimp out on using quality gaskets and make sure you torque every bolt to spec, adjust your valve's after everything is installed and done. If you install every thing to spec and jet your carb correctly you shouldn't have any problems.

440 Big bore--stock 70mm stroke w/a 88.5/89mm bore. Actually comes out to a 430-435.

440 Stroker. 87mm bore (stock is 85mm) and a 74mm stroke. A more expensive way to go, but very reliable and fast.

The 440 stroker is a true 440, unlike most 440 big bores.
