I am in the process of building my king quad for XC racing and Playing around in the mud. I want to make this affordible, but still be competitive in both fields.

What I am starting with.

2006 Green King Quad 700.

Purpose: Race XC, GPs, and maybe a mud event or 2.

Parts List (installed)

Custom CVT Snorkel (still working out the details, the stocker sits too low and collects water easy)
PC 625 Battery - Stock Battery goes bad fast.
Power Madd Hand guards
Reverse Limiter Mod

Future Parts:
HMF Pipe (quiet core also for at home riding): Installed
Dobeck Controller (Thanks FatTire and NYROCATV) Installed
Maxxis All Trak Tires: Installed
Beadlock rims (OMF but expensive, they can wait, I may buy a extra set of stockers)
Mud Tires (to go on the extra set of rims, for playing around home)
Clutch Kit
Steering Stabilizer
Works Shocks (I can't afford 2k for Elkas:scary: )
Skid plates
VDI ECU (I never like buying first year stuff maybe next season)
Gusset Frame (who knows when this will be)
.....the list will get bigger as I think of things

Its basically stock I will update with pics and how I did it as I proress. If you have any questions, or prices feel free to ask.

My EFi Controller Pipe, tires, and coolant came in.

Installed the HMF pipe, with the EFI controller at 3 3 4 7. Runs good alot more low end....its louder then hell but have some decent power. Still need to do some final tuning

Waiting on my tires to be mounted.

Change my coolant, But for some reason my fan won't come on:confused: I am going to wire up a switch

Other misc, taken off the front racks and making some brackets for my fenders.

Relocating my snorkels underneath the fenders.

I will have pics hopefully next week.

I have a 1st, 2nd and 1th this season. Not too shabby.

Got my tires on they are freaking awesome.

My fan had a blown fuse. I guess if you stop the fan it blows fuses so it must have had alot of mudd in it. I did get the swtich wired up it works nicley. I wired it up to my thermostat so that my thermostat could still turn on my fan.

Took my front racks off not sure If I will leave them off or not.

I have been running engine ice. I love the stuff. I guess the king fans have a low stength motor or something like that and the fueses blow very easily. Keeps the fan motor from burning up.

I have a race this saturday I will have some pics up then

I will have to try the engine ice. Has anyone else bought the Denton steering stabilizer for their King? I got mine in the mail this week and was looking at it last night and I couldnt find a good angle to put it at so it wouldnt bind too much. If anyone else has it installed, any pics or info would be appericated. THanks

Just bought a 07 king bone stock. Did put a better tire match on, Question to you is what whould start with on a up grade without breaking the back to do so,. The kind of riding is getting into the mud a bit and climbing hills and running through the trails .Thanks any and all advise.,

firefighterjosh
01-07-2008, 06:55 PM
What kind of tires and size did you put on?

So far the biggest bang for my buck I have gotten is putting on my yellow EPI secondary spring and 20 gram weights.

The Yellow secondary helps keep the belt bark down and helps belt wear. The weights help with accleration and come in a ton of diffrect weights depending on tire size or accleration wanted.

I sent you a PM:)

Josh, what special tools do I need to do the clutch work?? I have heard alot of guys going with the yellow spring, and was thinking of doing it to my King. Do you happen to know the difference between the yellow one and the lime green one, I see they have that one on EPIs site and havent heard much talk about it. Thanks for any help.

firefighterjosh
01-28-2008, 09:32 AM
I am not sure what the diff is between the green and yellow spring. I use the Yellow and it works great.

I have a press at home that I used. I just held the cap down with the press and un screwed the nut. Then slowly raised it back up. Then I just used arm muscle (2 people) and foced the spring back down as another person screwed on the nut.

I notice the YFZ front shocks. What did you do to them? Change any springs, revalved, etc?

What are you running on the rear?

My b-i-l has some brand new Raptor SE shocks I may try if they're worth it. They'll be lying around this weekend.

Gotta love those All Traks, eh? :D I sure wish they made them in a 20"

I need to install a set on my "new" KQ, got em, just gotta take the stock's off.

firefighterjosh
02-20-2008, 12:10 PM
I am not sure about revavling yet. Once I get it running and can get a little time ot play with them I will know what vavling I want.

On the rear I am not sure. 450R shocks will work but you have to make brackets so it dosen't bind the CVs. My Banshee shocks fit right up, but I am going to have to wait to test them when I can see if they will bind up.

Yes I love the all traks, they will get the ultimate test next year during the IXCR series

Keep me posted would you?

For ****s and giggles, I may take the Raptor's shocks and put them up front. I notice they are a little longer, 3/4" I think it was.

I just wondered if you slapped them on and rode or if there was some forethought going on.

firefighterjosh
02-20-2008, 05:50 PM
Just take it easy and make sure they don't bind.

YFZs are great up front from what I have read. Its the rears no one has figured out:(

Air box mods.

Originally I was going to still use the original stock intake but I have decided against that. It will be plugged off. (isn't in pics)

But I have added some other mods to it.

Above the Air box lid is a huge wide hole I cut. This will not get any material over it. On the side I have holes with outerwear material incase of a splash
http://www.nyrocatv.com/forum/photo/189781.jpg

If its going to be watery race or raining I made a water/mud flap for the hole. tis not going to keep all the water out but it will help against splashes

http://www.nyrocatv.com/forum/photo/189783.jpg

I also installed heat tape to help cool the airbox which I hope leads to cooler air.

The king is alive. Running decent. Still has some tunning to be done.

This is from about a 5-10MPH roll. A little over 3/4 throttle. Can't wait to really rip on it. But I would like to get some more hours on it before beating on it too bad:devil:

Dude, I just read your thread and just wanted to say that you did one-hell-of-a-good-job on your King Quad. What's the racing update? How is your XC season progressing? Results? How well are those YFZ shocks working for you?

You have an interesting quad. I blew up my XC quad in March and bought a new one in April of this year. I'm a big boy from Louisiana and really concidered buying a King Quad, but decided to buy a Raptor 700R in the end. I am building it in sort-of a utility quad way, I'm running 25" rubber all around. Are you still running the All-Traks? How are they working for you? I'm running Maxxis 4Speed tires, 25x8R12 fronts and 25x10R12 rears. They handle pretty well, the fronts steer quite good with a bit of predicable understeer. I am disappointed in the rears. I've only raced them one race with 4 practice runs and have rounded the knobs quite a bit already, I doubt they'll make the end of the year in a useable fashion. I'm gonna turn them around after the next race and start rounding off the other side of the blocks.

Anyway, damn nice quad, I appreciate what you've done.

Here's a couple pics of my Raptor XC racer.

I have only raced it once this year. Been having problems with the ECU and also gas has killed me so I kinda quit racing. I have raced a YFZ450 with gutted exhaulst and cam mod and beat him till about 4th gear (on the YFZ).

The all traks are awesome. WHen I raced it last I started with the sport class. I started last and ended up catching them lol.

Yeah, gas is killing me too. I've given up most things but racing, really hopeing to be able to keep racing. We're on summer break till Sept 7, so the break helped me catch-up on things. Also installed a set of Flexx bars since last race so they should really help.

In my series, ATVCCS, the utilities start behind me, about 4 minutes behind, and always catch me and many other sport quad riders. That's what has prompted me to try out bigger tires cause the ute guys weren't fighting the ruts, rocks and mud as much as us sport quads were. So far my big 4Speeds are working well, they make a smooth riding quad even smoother; smooth is fast.

I like your racing pics on the KQ.

Chris

Ya being on a 4x4 is alot more easier in the ruts. But atleast on the king bump steer really sucks. Its also alot of run never getting stuck lol

Take it easy,
Chris

you need razrs for more percise handling...thats entirely too big of a tire for that small of a quad...youre going to put way too much stress on your axle bearings and youre going to be weaker with a tire that huge...I race 4x4s but trust me bro...those 4 speeds belong on a 4x4. You need 22 in tires at the biggest
