Does anyone know what company makes these and where to get them...I saw them in dirt wheels a while back and would like to try it out.

I will be racing a CODE McMillin 500 desert race this weekend and the quad We are going to race in is equiped with a twist/thumb throttle. I'll let you know how it works out when we get back.

Senseless? Why do you say that? I think it is a great product. Especially for team races. For instance, 2 of our riders ride with twist on their own quads and the other 2 (including me) have thumb on our quads. So I think it is a great product to have in these situations.

Yes, the twist locks in place while using the thumb. I looked at it at teh dealer show, terry cable makes some very good products and this throttle looked very well thought out and constructed. It has a little pin which you pull that allows the twist to move and take over, when you want to switch back you just push the pin back in.

can this be done while in a race?

yes, all you have to do is push or pull a pin. I wouldn't do it whil riding the quad though. I would complete a complete stop and then do it.

I would probably do it while getting checked in....may have to try it. My biggest problem is my thumb going numb and i cant keep on the throttle. I ordered a extension that should be here today so I will try it at my race this weekend. Might solve my problem.
