400ex cylinder head plunger

I recently installed a stage 1 HOTCAM. The directions told me to remove the plunger and spring in the cylinder head. I don't understand what that did, or the significance of removing it. Someone educate me please.

The spring and plunger are part of the auto-decompression mechanism on the stock cam. Since the HC doesn't utilize an auto-decomp, those parts aren't needed.
