I have my engine in my 04 tore down right now, and I am wondering what the reed valve does? It is inside the engine by the drain plug. I know where it goes and everything, I am just not sure what it does exactly, I can tell it limits oil and it is a one way valve, but what is it limiting oil for? Thanks

It might be for stopping oil drain back from the oil pump? I dunno, I haven't had my engine down that far. Where is your shop manual? Can you take a picture of it?

The shop manual just calls it a "reed vlave". It doesn't actually tell what it does. It is a little rectangular gold peice, it goes between the cases, down by the drain plug. I will try to get a picture.

that would be great, sounds interesting. I've only been down to the cases. Next time I'll be putting in my new crank, down the road are far as possible hopefully. My stocker is just fine, but the HotRods is on the shelf.

i once heard it was for oil scavaging (def wrong spelling lol)
there also a small hole where the engine drain screw goes where the valve release oil during oil changes.
