I just bought a 2000 Buell M2 Cyclone yesterday and absolutly love it. It 's got ALOT of torque is very fun to ride. It has a Vance and Hines slip on muffler and he said it was jetted. When I ride it sometimes it backfires, especially during decelaration. I think this a jetting problem but im not sure. I put premium in it and my dad said that most Harley engines are made to run on regular, does anyone know what it is for Buells (I dont have a manual), and could this be the cause of my problems? thanks

my dad has had harley's his whole life and he puts nothing but premium in his '06. i bet that guy just didnt jet it or its too cold outside right now, and ones it heats up, the jetting will clear up. congrats on the new bike.

I know my buddies buell is EFI, and I thought they all were. He put a jardine pipe on his and it ran like garbage. The stock EFI will usually not make up for such a drastic change on those motors.

This is one of the last Buells that was carbuerated. Any ideas on which jets would need to be changed?

backfiring on decel with no throttle on is a lean idle mixture. Richen up the air screw 1/4 turn at a time until it goes away.

Take the bowl off the carb and take the jet out. Bump it up two to three sizes and see how it runs. You deffinately do not want to be running it lean.

Ignore sly400 as he has no clue. What you described is exactly what 400exrider707 said, MIXTURE SCREW! And adjust it exactly like he told you. You turn the screw in or out until it idles the FASTEST. That is the bike telling you what it wants. Make SURE the bike is up to full operating temp before starting this. After that, set the idle correctly & go ride it. Now if it does it when you close the throttle with a lot of rpm & it pops, you may need to richen the needle. The main jet will only be an issue when you are ON the throttle. Good luck & let us know how it works out for you. Ray.
