the power is great, without the SA the pipe barks loud, with it in the power is tuneable as well as sound. Here's a pic of mine all polished up

I definately love the sound, and it helps add to the low end punch. Its definately louder then the claimed 96db, but its sweet music to my ears!!!. I keep the SA on mine because I ride in the state forest. The mid pipe mount breaks on them commonly though, mine did as well. No biggie just a little re weld shot and good to go. I like the tunability of this pipe. I just have the slip on.

I just bought a quad with a e-series exhaust already on it and the previous owner told me that if it was too loud I could put this little plate between the end cap and disk pack. I just tried this and as I expected the plate prevents almost all exhaust from exiting and it just doesn't seem right at all.

I assume that the plate is this "SA" that you guys are talking about. How does this thing work? Should it go on after the disk pack?

By the way, it does sound very nice with it open althought it is loud. Like I said I bought the quad with it already on so I comment on any power gains.

Thanks

the solid plate is the SA and it should be the very first plate on the pipe.

I dig how it looks too, I will eventually go with a different aftermarket once the big gun ****s the bed its almost there. 4 years now, and it just broke the weld right before the muffler.

Sorry for going kind of off topic but now I'm thoroughly confused.

I had the plate where the green line is and it did not allow hardly any exhaust to pass through. When I switched it so the solid plate was where the red line is it ran fine and did seem quieter.

Should the plate be where the red or green line is?

Sorry for my lack of intelligence.

Put it at the red line. Then you will be good to go.

it should go on the front on the end cap side not the silencer side then your exhaust will definently not excape.

Red Line! Man, I can't believe it even ran the other way, no flow!

Yep, Spark Arrestor "SA"

These exhausts are great for the money. I love mine. It adds a good amount of power with out being ear splittingly loud.

They do have a tendancy to break the welds at the supports and where the can meets the pipe. I just had mine welded because of this.

thest pipes are nice but if you bottom out the brake disk will put a hole in the bottom of pipe and the little supports that holds the canister to the mid pipe they break

Brake disc? What dude?

If your rear shock bottoms out there's a chance the muffler will hit the brake rotor, causing a warped rotor, bent muffler, or broken bracket on the muffler (very common, cast aluminium bracket I believe)

I doubt the pipe will hit the caliper or rotor unless the subframe is or gets bent. And I have a hard time beliving the pipe will bend the rotor:ermm:

You never know, on my E-series, the previous owner bottomed out his shock and it hit the caliper, there's a big dent on the bottom.

mine has that dent on it to. But it's way to uniform and smooth to be from hitting anything. I just figured that it came that way from the factory.

The E-series have a dent already in them for that purpose, I never have bottomed my shock out yet and I run a +1.25 swinger.

Mines a super, scratched dent, which was cut off, then welded back.

I just bottomed out my rear shock in my garage with a couple of ratchet straps and the tie off points on our floor. My rear shock is shot and soon to be rebuilt but when it maxed out the exhaust had about an inch to an inch and a half of clearance. Maybe it's the way mine is mounted, but mine won't hit .

That little support that you're talking about snapped the other day and the whole canister fell off. Got it welded back together and I'm back in business.

The older e-series would hit the brake caliper denting the exhuast, then they started putting a dent in it from the factory. The e-series is known for the mount breaking off the welds don't hold up. It is easy to get rewelded though. It was one of the best exhuast for the 400ex back in 1999 now there are a lot of better options that make more power.

I've never had my pipe mount break yet.

Mine broke as well. I've heard that they fixed the problem with the welds on the newer ones. Either way I welded the crap out of mine so doubt I'll have any other problems.

Mine is cracked in three places, not broken.

I have the E-series on my 440ex, No SA. Love the exhaust, Mine all ready cracked and has been re welded. And the Shock has been bottomed out and the Exhaust has a dint in it from the caliper hitting it.....

Well if mine did ever crack Iwould go with HMF then, I do see that my shock is getting softer but it hasn't bottomed yet.

I have been through about 5 to 6 E series exhaust. If you have the gusset on the bottom you have the new style. I live right next to White bros. Everytime I broke my exhaust they gave my a new one. They started with no gussets, then went to a gusset on the top, and finally put it on the bottom and fixed the problem.

I haven't seen a pipe shootout lately for the 400ex pipes, but the E-series was the top last one the read in the mags.
