Anyone here ever replaced the swingarm bearings on their 400ex? How much trouble was it pressing the old ones out? The manual shows a special honda tool used for pressing them out, there has to be another way.

find a socket the right size and use a hammer or the vice to press the old bearings out and to press the new ones in. BE SURE AND ANTI-SIEZE everthing when u put it back together so it will come apart again, and put lots of water proof grease in those new bearings.

I am pulling it appart tonight, let me see what it looks like and I might just buy one. I didn't notice the bearings were shot until last thursday so I had to ride the race on sunday that way. The swingarm might be damaged.

I notice the other day that if i stood on the bike and rocked side to side the swing arm was moving on the axle. I'm guess that the bearing are loose. Is this a big job to replace the?

If you mean in the rear where the axle goes through the swingarm then it is not a big job. Look in the faq section of this forum and there is a great how to.

I just knocked the needle bearings out with a socket that I put on the belt sander and flatened on the end. Did you guys heat the swingarm and chill the bearings to get them back in?

I chilled the bearings, but didnt heat the swingarm

I put a lil grease on the outside of the bearing, bumped it in with the plastic hammer as far as I could, then taped it useing the socket and it was in!
