I'm setting up another R for mostly desert and dune riding THIS IS NOT A DRAG BIKE. Motor is midrange ported. I have a few pipe to select from and was wondering what would be the best to start with.

CT Whale Pipe
Paul Turner Eliminator
Bill's MX pipe
FMF Fatty
ESR TRX5

Motor has Vortex 3 reeds and a 39mm PWK with a 188 main to start, will be riding right at sea level.

Thanks,

Josh

my vote would go to the TRK 5 pipe or the CT whale pipe....definatly not a FMF though

why not a fmf

fmf i think would be one of the last choices on a big bore motor like that, i know the whale pipe works well on a 330 R and a 310...definatly best off getting a custom pipe made from an experienced builder but of those choices TRX and the whale pipe would be my choices, i would either get a custom pipe made if i was him and spend extra cash or look for a used whale pipe if their isnt much money to spend

the rev or the sst pipe would be good for him

on a 250 or 265 yes a sst or fatty pipe would be a good choice, but on a 370 motor, they just wont work well

I currently have all the above listed pipes, I just wanted to know from sombody that has had one, which works best.

lrd has a nice midrange pipe for 330-370cc,has a bigger tailpipe than the 250 pipe

out of those, i would go with the whale pipe.

I would run the whale pipe. Good top end pull and midrange, and since you have the pv you will have good low end.

Well sense it's for a Duncan top end I wood pick the pipe that it was designed for which is the Paul Turner..Mid or the Eliminator.

LRD, they are adjustable and it does move the power around. They also have a bigger stinger diameter which is important for a big bore to make max power. My buddy has an lrd 330 with their pipe and silencer and we switched with my fmf fatty once just for fun,BIG difference in power and he overheated easier in the woods. I'm not familiar with the whale pipes, [never tried one], but I always thought they were top end pipes more for drag racing. I like the lrd because we ride in the woods and dune and it eliminates needing two pipes. :D

i just got muself an lrd big bore pipe . compared to my sparks mx it is HUGE !
have not tried it yet as having carb problems , but i can tell you it feels very well made and i'm sure its heavier guage than the sparks , that has a real tinny ring to it when i compare the two with a flick of the finger ..
i hear all ct pipes have the bigger stinger also .

If you want a midrange pipe with excellent top end...go with the TRX-5. It was first intruduced as a bigbore inframe , so it works well with many engine combos. I've never heard anything about them. They have excellent bottom-mid and great topend. Best all around pipe out there.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up using the TRX-5 pipe just because I already had the mounts and all ready for it from my 310 kit.

Carb is a 39mm PWK, DDJ needle clip one up from middle and a 165 main jet was what I ended up with. Still slightly rich (dark brown in color but works great).

Plug- BR9EIX

Ignition ended up being my 98 CR250 one from my 310 kit. Th 370 had a new stator and all in it, but I just couldn't get any spark.

I tried a few of the ignitions that I have around and go no spark from any of them, I think it was a ground issue.

Anyway thanks again for all the input, motor pull like a tractor down low but will rev out when needed.

I cannot believe how many people replied that a CT whale pipe is a good pipe.

The TRX5 is the best pipe for 250-330 in my opinion, others might disagree and there are other good pipes out there but I love the 5. On the big motors they seem to lose out some though. I have heard from what I would consider an excellent source that there is a new style LRD big bore pipe and it flat rips. I have also seen a CPI big bore inframe but dont know how it works, Sparks used to make a Big motor pipe. The TRX11 would probably work ok.

I would steer away from anything FMF, CT, old LRD, etc.

they are saying that because this is for a 370 motor not a 250-330

Its still junk on any motor, just because its big doesnt mean it works good with a big motor.

If he wants a big pipe buy a ESR or FTZ both are bettter than the CT by far.

Ct actually made and STILL makes good 2 stroke pipes. I have a whale pipe, a sparks tt, and now the CPI big bore. The Whale blows the doors off the tt on a big bore engine. For a Big Bore engine the big bore pipes really shine. That is why I went to the Cpi when I got my 350. Then I bought the whale for a steal of a deal. The trx 5 is a good pipe, but the whale is much better on a big bore. Especially a pv motor since the valve helps down low and the whale will let it rev out well.
