Just thaught i would post a thread about some information that i came accross while reading my clymers service manual. I compared the new and old transmission specifications and found some interesting info...
Old Tranny ratios...
1st gear=2.916
2nd gear=1.937
3rd gear=1.473
4th gear=1.181
5th gear=1.0
Final Reduction ratio=2.533
New Tranny ratios.......
1st gear=2.727
2nd gear=1.789
3rd gear=1.363
4th gear=1.080
5th gear=.925
Reverse=2.428
Final Reduction ratio=2.785
I plugged these ratios into a gearing calculator that i found (heres the link)http://www.everything2stroke.com/resource/gear.php.
I found that the newer 400exs actually have higher top end speeds then the older models. I found this interesting because most people i talk to seem to think the older models have a higher top end speed since the new ones have 14 tooth front sprockets.
Anyway i just found this interesting and wanted to provide everyone with this info. I hope im not just posting on a subject thats already been braught up too much. Feel free to plug in the ratios and check for yourselves.:D
