Sub box building help

I want to put two 8" in my truck, the thing is my truck is a regular cab so room is VERY tight.

Could someone give me some help with measurements and some tips?

you should definately get 10's. They hit lower and you'll have a fuller bass. Try these, shalow mount (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-e81oqGyYTVF/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=520&I=2067C10VT2) . They have a much shallower mounting depth so you can use a smaller box.

Just a little advice. I have a kicker comp 12 and went to a p2 12. I put the kicker back in after two days and sold the p2. The kick er sounds better hits harder and picks up the lows way better.

As far as building the box. Try and get the recomended space inside the box. You'll prolly have a large flat box but if you want to get the full potential out of your subs you need the correct airspace. Hope that helps

Just remember.. just because you have 12 or 15 inch subs doesn't mean they'll hit harder than a 10 inch sub. If you don't have the room to accommodate a box that contains the cubic air space needed for optimal performance the quality of sound wil suck and the kick won't be as hard.

If you're a tall guy and need to put your bucket seats back all the way, I'd suggest a single box to house 2 10 inch speakers. This will allow you to stretch it across the back of the truck and utilize an extra 3/4 inch of space that you may need because you won't have 2 pieces of high density particle board or whatever you choose next to each other (if you were to use 2 boxes). You'd use one box and just put a center piece in which gets rid of any space that would be not used with 2 boxes when the two boxes sit next to each other, and also an additional piece of additional HDPB that would be required for 2 boxes.

The other thing you'll want to take in to account for is what type of music you listen to. Depending on that you'll want a sealed or ported box.

just get some high density board and air nailer, liquid nails and build your own. in a dakota i dont think you need big woofers. i have a 5" bazooka bass tube in my f-150 and it makes plenty of noise.

I have a pair of JL 8w3's in my truck due to space reasons. They are plenty loud and sound great. Realistically I am hitting about 118db. Thats just fine. I'm sure you'll be happy w/ a pair of 8's. Its no different than everyone here recommending the 450's like a 400ex is just crap. Its still great at what its intended for. Same w/ the 8's. They are great at what they are intended for. Besides realistically a pair of 8's are about equal to one and a half 10's ....

the response on that one is from 40Hz to 250Hz.. if youre wanting base, you want to try and get as low of a response as possible..
that shallow one mentionined by DF400EX is definitely a better sub speaker.

I would go with 2 elemental designs sq10's they are very shallow and are made for small airspace boxes.

im not sure if you have checked into this or not, but here is what im doing.

i dont feel like fining the "right" subs to fir in the tight space in my truck, so i am going to buy this pre-fabed box with 2 8 in. MTX subs already in it. Its madde to fit certain years and certain models...this one is for mine

This is whatI used to have in my Ranger and what I have now. I sold all the Sony subs and one of the amps. I had these 12's sitting in the garage for over a year and decided to throw them in for a little while until I get something else.

i just got a system put in mine last week. i got 2 10" kenwoods and a fusion amp and these things rock!:blah: but on your subject, my friend has a reg cab and he has 2 8" MTX in it and it sounds amazing.

It's easy to make noise but it takes knowledge, skill and talent to make it sound good;)

So it looks like I'm buying the set above, could you guys help me with some measurements of the box? 5 inches is the deepest I can go...

building an air tight box is what you need to do, i installed 2 =12" JL Audio W-6 in my regular cab GMC,the box is not deep but it is as wide as i can make it to try to get the right amount of air space. If you do lack air space you can always add some poly-fill to the box and make up for the needed space. Crutchfeild should have air space requiremant for the subs in the tech section.
