My son is getting ready to turn 13 next week. Looking to buy him a new quad to race. He has been riding a few yrs., a Husky with a 109 engine but recently the chain popped off, broke the stator and have been informed its irreplaceable. Anyway, he is a small kid, 85lbs. Would anyone have any recommendation on what I should get him??? Looked into the Blaster but they no longer sell it. Looked into the Honda 250EX but the class states it needs to be a 300 so don't think that will work. Been reading your forum on the Honda 90! However the race class states it has to be a 90 2 stroke or a 125 4 stroke. If thats the case, can't race either unless in the production class which to be honest, not really engine upgrading savy! Also, is the ones riding the 90's a more younger group of riders?? Any help you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!

Blasters are a good choice for a older kids to small adults. They have a pretty mild motor stock but run real well with a few upgrades and there are alot of upgrades out for the Blasters. Just try to get the newer model with disc brakes in front. I started out racing a Blaster in 1998 at 12 years old. The only problem was finding a class to run in but now alot of tracks have 0-200 classes for them.

a 300 class meens up to 300cc any 250 4stk will be ok. actually its usualy200cc two stk or 300 4 stk. just as the 90 class is up to 90cc 2 stk or up to 125cc 4 stk . hope this helps.. personally at 13 i would look for a 300 if he can learn a clutch, just because he can use it for a while.

Thank you everyone for your input. Looks like the Blaster, 250 or 300 would be better for him than a 90. I figured a 90 he'd grow out of soon but with the race class running up to age 15, I wasnt sure. Looks like everyone is agreeing with going bigger so your input has been GREAT in helping make the decision!!! I know it costs us more to buy new but Im alittle skeptical when buying a used vehicle, you never know what your getting and don't know much about the engine stuff "yet". Needless to say, Yamaha no longer makes the Blaster so Im leaning more toward the Honda. Honda has the 250EX with the sport clutch, that might be nice. Anyone have any thoughts on that???

This is just an opinion but you may want to compair several ATV's in that class. Blasters, 300 ex, etc. The 250ex is more like a 250 Recon than a pure sport ATV

Not wanting to throw a wrench into the works.everyone has good ideas.but my only worry is the weight of your son.you said he is 85lbs.my thoughts are he is a little small for a 300ex.you need a little weight to throw it around.i have two kids that raced nats.and one raced a 300ex . and one raced a 90 production .it seems to me your son would easlely fit the 90 .he could still race it untill 15.then move to the 300.just my thoughts...
