View Full Version : taking off 400ex cylinder

i need some help can somebody lead me to an link or show me some pictures of what bolts you have to remove so you can take off the cylinder

Just start tearing it apart and you'll get there.

I took the plastic off, the fuel tank, carbuerator, big bolt through the valve cover connecting it to the frame.

Take all the valve cover bolts and pay attention to the length what holes they're in, I would write down a diagram on paper.

Remove the valve cover exposing the cam.
Loosen/remove cam chain tensioner.
Take the cam gear off the cam and remove the cam, then gear making sure not to drop the timing chain in the motor.

Take the nuts out the hold the cylinder head on and remove the head.

Then take the nuts (4 I think) that hold the cylnder onto the studs.
Now you can gently tap the cylinder with a rubber mallet to loosen it from the base gasket. Pull up on the cylinder while tapping and it should come off.

onec you get the head off their r 4 bolts that hold down the cylinder then the 2 little ones on they side some times the cylinder it stuck to the base bad just keep tapping it un till it comes free .
