I need a wire harness for my r, and I'm not sure of the year. The cases are gray, and from what I've read, that should be an '86 or '87. I was looking on servicehonda.com, and the harnesses have different part numbers for the '86 and '87. Which should I buy, or, what year cr harness should I use, and what all parts from it would I need? Thanks!

86, 87, and 88 harnesses are discontinued. 89's are only available. The stator had different plugs with that year also. A cr harness is very different. You can mix different year harness for all year 250r. Difference come with the stator plugs, flywheels for all years were different. I believe 86/87 and 88/89 had different cdi's. If you are gonna order anything, get a 89 harness, change the stator plugs and you are set.

88 harness's are NOT discontinued. (Unless they were just discontinued in the last week or so.) I just bought a 88 harness from Service Honda less then a month ago. A little over a year ago when I bought my quad, I checked with Service Honda and the 86, 87 was discontinued, but you could still get 88,89. I run the 88 harness on my 86, and everything plugged right in. The only thing I do not have on my 86 that the 88's have is the key switch, I just left those wire's unplugged. The only difference on the 89 harness is one of the stator plugs, everything else is the same. I would just by the 88 harness, and not have to mess with a thing.
