I have a brand new 400ex and i was wondering why sometimes it is hard to shift from 1st to second, some times it hits neutral. i have a friend who also has a brand new 400 and his does the same thing, i was just wondering if somebody can tell me if this is normal or if it is just a rider error, it very rarely does it but most the time it happens when i just pop it up on a wheelie. any help would be appreciated. thanks.

My 400 shifts smooth. Usually when I miss 2nd, its because my foot was lazy.

try moving your shifter. It may be too low. And if its too low, your foot will not let it come back to the normal resting position, which doesnt let u shift as smooth. Try moving it up ONE notch.

It might get better after you ride a bit ...you did say it was brand new, break it in a little and then see

Are you not useing the clutch when you shift, because you said you wheelie when it misses the gear... I use the clutch and it shift smooth as silk.

Its because your not kicking it up hard enough. I do that all the time, espacially after riding for long periods of time.

Well in my case it wasn't that . I have no problem shifting in any gear. only going into 3rd from 2nd. it happen all the time. I get horrably holeshots because of it. I've miss shifted about about 5 time on the start in my last 6 race. Now My 3rds justs grinds.
